When I was a toddler in New York City, I’d demand my parents take me down to the subway to watch the trains pass by for hours. My lifelong interest in cities led me to major in Geography and Urban Studies at Macalester College, and earn a Master’s degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania.
In my studies, I’ve focused on two topics: urban design and transportation. I’m fascinated by our great urban spaces, and what makes them so successful. I’m also dedicated to building multi-modal transport systems in cities which have built exclusively around the automobile for decades.
Of course, these two interests are strongly connected. It is no accident that cities with great public spaces also tend to boast great transportation design.
When I'm not thinking about cities, I'm probably thinking about soccer. I'm a constant reader, frequent writer, and a strong believer in eight hours of sleep.
